Vintage Parker Knoll Armchair

£850.00

The Flying Scotsman Armchair

A classic Parker Knoll armchair fully refurbished and reupholstered with a stunning design of The Flying Scotsman.

The fabric is an original piece of textile artwork created using applique of silks and velvet fabrics to depict the Flying Scotsman steam train travelling over a viaduct through my village of Little Bytham. Hand and free motion machine embroidery have been used to build up the detail texture and shading. It is stitched onto a backing of 100% British wool.

The fabric is extremely hard wearing and has been designed to be safely used as a chair without risk of damage to the artwork.
A good sized, very comfortable chair, perfectly suited for a steam train loving gentleman, a chair that is to be treasured forever.

This is truly a one off design that will never be repeated – unique to you.

The chair measures: H x 34″, W x 26″, D x 28″

FREE delivery to the mainland UK ONLY. Delivery will be a door to door service, via a reputable, independent courier.

Vintage Parker Knoll armchair

This lovely classic Parker Knoll arm chair has been completely refurbished and re-upholstered using traditional methods.

The overall size and shape of the chair suggested to me that it would be perfectly suited for a gentleman. The extra width and depth of the seat would make it so comfortable to sit in and read the paper, or maybe a book on steam trains?

I love to blend art with upholstery and I take a lot my inspiration from the local landscape. I live in Little Bytham, where the East Coast main line railway cuts through the eastern side of the village over viaducts.

It’s also where the Mallard locomotive made it’s 126 mph record breaking run on the 3rd July 1938 and in 1933 the Flying Scotsman achieved 120 mph just south of the village. There is a lot of railway history attached to this village.

Inspired by the local history, this is my interpretation of the Flying Scotsman travelling over a nearby viaduct. Train aficionados will no doubt find some inaccuracies, but it is a piece of artwork rather than a photographic replica.

Textile techniques including applique, patchwork, machine and hand embroidery have resulted in a truly unique chair. This is a one off design for a person who loves steam trains and mid century furniture. It is also a chair that is to be treasured forever.

The main fabric is a terracotta/brick coloured 100% British wool from Moons. Not only is it the perfect colour for the railway arches, it is also incredibly hard wearing. Something that has to be considered for a gentleman’s chair.

The mid century style frame has been sanded down, cleaned up and returned to it’s lovely natural patina with the use of hemp oil. I love the darkened groves to the front edges of the chair. They remind me of railway tracks.

Please note that this is a vintage piece, it has had a previous life as a well loved piece of furniture so it is not perfect. There are a couple of marks and dings to the frame.

It needs a home where it will be appreciated as a future heirloom and loved for the story it tells.

FREE delivery to the mainland UK ONLY. Delivery will be a door to door service, via a reputable, independent courier.
